Mount Abu – The only hill station of Rajasthan

Mount Abu is the hill station in the state of Rajasthan, India. The city is situated in the Sirohi district of western Rajasthan. The hill station surrounds by green lusty Aravalli Hills, the hub of uncounted herbal medicines. The city was first ruled by the Parmar dynasty in 916 AC. After Parmar’s it was ruled by the Deora- Chauhan dynasty, then resumed by Britishers during World War II.

 The hill station is the most attractive destination for flora and fauna in Rajasthan. Mount Abu is famous for its magnificent historical monuments and religious temples. The town is near the Rajasthan and Gujrat border. This hill station is famous for its entangled architecture as well as the relaxing Nakki lake in the centre of the town.

Major attractions of Mount Abu

  • Dilwara Temple :- This is a group of Jain temples located 2.5kms away from Mount Abu in the Sirohi district. The temple is famous for its glorious architecture as well as delicate stone carvings. Dilwara temple is made of white marble and beautifully carved stones. This temple was built in the 13th century.
  • Guru Shikhar :- It is the highest peak of the Rajasthan as well as the Aravalli ranges. Guru Shikhar is about 1722 m high and gives a breath-taking view of lusty green Aravalli ranges as well as Mount Abu town. There’s a cave on the hill’s peak dedicated to Dattatreya, an epitome of Lord Vishnu.
  • Nakki Lake :- Formed in the centre of Mount Abu. It is a freshwater man-made lake also the holy lake of the Garasia tribe of Rajasthan. Nakki lake is 11,000 m high and a lover’s spot in the town. Tourists visit here for relaxing and spending a peaceful time.

  • Sunset Point :- It is the must-visit destination of Mount Abu. After exploring the town for the whole day, tourists reach here to view the Sunkissed ranges of Aravalli. This point is near Nakki lake and a perfect location for tourists.
  • Anchalgarh Village :- The village is famous for the Anchalgarh fort and Anchaleshwar Temple. The fort is now a ruin but the Anchaleshwar temple and Mandakini Lake lies inside the fort and tourists still visit here. The temple is of lord Shiva here the statue of Nandi is made up of 5 metals, silver, gold, brass, copper, and zinc.  
  • Trevor’s Tank :- Known as Trevor’s Crocodile Park. It is a man-made wildlife sanctuary as well as a crocodile breeding centre. Engineer Col. G H Trevor formed this park for breeding crocodiles. This park is home to various birds and animals including the black bear. It is a favourite spot for nature lovers in Mount Abu.

How and when to visit

Mount Abu is a whole-year destination but the best time to visit is November to March. At this time weather is very low as well as pleasant. The best season to visit is the monsoon as this time greenery is all around the hill station making it a perfect holiday location.

The hill station is an easy-to-reach destination and connected with major cities of the country via roads, railways and air networks. The nearest domestic airport is in Udaipur which is approximately 185km away from the main city, connected with Delhi, Jaipur, and Mumbai. Also, the nearest international airport is in Ahmedabad city of Gujrat which is 221 km away from the town.
