Goa – The Costal Charm of India 

Goa is a state in the Konkan region of India. This state has the smallest geographical area but has the largest GDP per capita in the country. It is the most visited holiday destination and attracts so many national and international visitors. The place is famous for its beautiful architecture Churches, crazy Nightlife, and white-sand Beaches. 

Earlier Goa was ruled by the Portuguese for around 450 years and the state was named by the Portuguese. But in the Sanskrit language, it is referred to as “Gomantak” which means fertile land. Here you can see the historic buildings as well as monuments designed in Portuguese style. The largest city of the state is Vasco de Gama where Portuguese came as traders and then concurred the land.  

The state is divided into two parts north and south Goa. Both parts have different looks and lifestyles. South Goa

  • Beaches:- The state is famous for its varied beaches inviting every kind of holiday plan, from family outings to cruise parties. The state offers different vibes for different people around the world. Some of the most famous beaches here are Calangute Beach, Agonda Beach, Sinquerim Beach, and the list goes on. However, it has so much to give to its visitors starting from an exotic environment to thrilling sea adventures. 
  • Casinos:- The state is the Gambling Capital of the Country which means it has so many casinos to entertain you. It is a coastal state with having very low population but has great success in the casino industry. Hence, here you can find land-based casinos and offshore vessel casinos offering a mix of vibrant atmospheres.   • Baga Beach:- This is the must to visit the beach of Goa. The beach is famous for its water adventures as well as for markets. Tourists also enjoy themselves in the restaurants here such as Britto’s, Mambos, and Tito’s. 
  • Butterfly Beach:- This is the hidden gem of Goa between the hills. The beach is a half-circular bay with turquoise water. It is a heavenly destination where you can see butterflies flying on the hilltops and goldfish and crabs in the water. This beach is perfect for couples to have peaceful quality time. The only way to get there is by boat.
  • Candolim Beach:- The beach with a history and majestic views of the sea on white sands. This beach is in North Goa housing the ship River Princess since 2000. It is one of the most famous and visited Goan beaches. Tourists enjoy different water sports mainly scuba diving here along with beach shacks and seafood. 
  • Palolem Beach:- It is the most beautiful beach in South Goa known for its calming environment. The beach has a vibrant party vibe and mesmerizing picturesque views attracting thousands of tourists. However, this semi-circular beach of Canacona is only one mile long and is the cleanest goan beach. 

Heritage sites

  • Basilica of Bom Jesus: This is one of the oldest churches in India, and it is highly significant among Christians. It was founded in 1594, and an Archbishop of Goa consecrated it in 1605. This architectural marvel in Old Goa holds the remains of St. Francis Xavier. He was a close companion of St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Society of Jesus. However, this white marble church is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 
  • Se Cathedral:- It is one of the largest churches in Asia and the biggest in the state. This church was built to celebrate the wins of Afonso Albuquerque in honor of St. Catherine of Alexandria. Se Cathedral is well known for the larger golden bell in its tower. The main hall of this church is dedicated to St. Catherine of Alexandria. This church is just opposite to Basilica of Bom Jesus 10km from Panaji. 
  • Fort Aguada:- This is a Portuguese fort founded in 1612 for the protection against the Dutch. It overlooks the Mandovi River and the Arabian Sea on Sinquerim beach. This fort is the highlight of the historic monuments in the state. However, this red-brown fort is a fabulous example of Italian architecture. It houses a central jail and lighthouse directing the ships on the sea. 
  • St. Augustine Tower:- It is a ruined monument standing beautifully since 1602 in Old Goa. This tower was once a church which was aboundened after 1835 due to restraining policies of Portuguese rulers. The building started collapsing in 1842 and the structure fell by 1871. Hence the bell from this tower moved to Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, Panaji in 1931. It is the most visited tourist destination here.
